The online rules also says “Lifetime” increments which is hopeful but not yet true. M-rics: stands for My Rank Improvement Counters, named after the first Cosmic Encounter evangelist Alan Emrich (pronounced emrick). Alan is a game designer who personally was responsible for thousands of Cosmic Encounter sales when the board game was first released in the mid 70's. Thanks Alan! Quitting: If you quit a game you get 0 m-rics. If you lose a game you get 5% of the pool plus m-rics for colonies. Monthly: At the end of each month, all existing m-ric values are archived and each member and alien are reset to 500 m-rics. This allows every month to be a wide open experience for the race to be the monthly winner. New members start with 500 m-rics. Yearly: At the end of the year, the member and the alien with the most m-rics are declared the yearly winners. M-rics are archived, everyone is reset to 500 and the new month begins. Note I have not implemented the lifetime ranking in the leader board application . . . but the information is available in our tables when I have time to do that. As part of this article, I'll create the SQL to answer our question about who the top players and aliens have been if we look at all of the years Cosmic Encounter® Online has been “Online.” Cosmic Encounter® Online Player Ranking is also described in our online rules.
